A BaaS bundles a database with app features such as auth, files, and APIs, while a managed database prices the database operation itself. The demo holds project/database count constant to expose the difference in billing scope.
As of 2026-10, Supabase Pro starts at $25/month per organization including its first Micro project; each additional Micro project starts around $10/month. PlanetScale Base single-node Postgres starts at $5/month per database. Its demo bar is a lower bound (≥) for the node starting price, not a total bill.
Supabase can charge for excess usage and PlanetScale adds storage, backups, and egress. Auth, file and realtime features, and compute performance also differ, so these bars do not establish which total solution costs less.
When to use
Use it to decide whether auth and files need one provider. Quote Supabase for a bundled backend and PlanetScale for a database-centered setup.
