Cloudflare Workflows V2, described in 2026, removed a bottleneck where one coordinator handled all instance metadata for an account. Per-workflow coordinators manage subsets of instances while a separate gate distributes concurrency slots. Each execution engine owns its instance state, leaving minimal data centrally.
The demo compares a central queue with several coordinators using an animated slider. This is a control-plane scaling example; its capacity figures should not be generalized to other systems.
When to use
Consider it when high workflow creation rates make central metadata coordination a bottleneck.
