GitHub Copilot adds completions, chat, and Agent features to editors and GitHub. Current paid plans include AI credits consumed according to model and feature usage.

As of 2026-10, individual Pro costs $10 per month with 1,500 AI credits, Pro+ $39 with 7,000, and Max $100 with 20,000. Free is $0 with 2,000 monthly code completions and limited chat and Agent use, but a quantitative AI-credit allowance was not confirmed. After paid credits run out, an enabled extra budget costs $0.01 per credit.

One AI credit is not one request. Consumption varies by model and feature; without an extra budget, usage may stop at the monthly limit.

When to use

Choose it to add AI to an existing editor and GitHub workflow. Compare its credits and extra budget separately from Cursor and Claude Code usage units.
